Handmade rugs are labor incentive, a high end rug with higher knotting involve lots of manpower to complete, naturally it is expensive than other low knotting rug, and a rug with silk accents is more expensive than woolen rug as the silk itself is very expensive than wool and it also cost extra on all weaving process. Q: How do we care Tibetan Rug?
Handmade Tibetan Rugs can last for centuries in good condition, give remarkably long service, and age beautifully with proper care. Following recommendations will help you in taking good care of your fine rugs.
Basic guideline:
Wrinkle
Most of the rug with size above 4?x6? are packed folded for easy handling and transportations, so do not disappoint seeing creases occurs from folding. We recommend you to roll up the rug for few days to remove wrinkle and lay flat on floor, if the wrinkle is still there don?t worry, due to the character of wool and silk it will take their place within certain time, wool and silk has a pile up features and due to the weaving technique it will come on their original position.
Well-maintained rugs are very durable due to the materials used (new wool)
To air the rug and avoid uneven wear and tear (tender spots) it should regularly be turned.
Dirt should be removed at once, as it would otherwise affect colors and material.
Life span could especially be shortened by sand (rubbing), moisture (mould), and insect pest.
Usually regular vacuum cleaning is sufficient. You should not be worried about little loose fibers. On new rugs these fibers are left over from shearing; otherwise this is a reaction to normal use.
Soak off Liquids before drying and treat them with lukewarm water. (If necessary add a little bit of mild detergent), e.g. blood, drinks, white of an egg, coffee, cocoa, milk, moldy spots, starchy food.
Dirt caused by oil must be soaked off immediately and treated with a commercial stain remover. (Dosage must be observed), e.g. paint, fruits, oil, fat, chewing gum, soot, gravy, shoe polish
Candle wax should first cool off. Then remove carefully and absorb the rest using a blotting paper and an iron (low temperature).
Spot are to be treated immediately: Leftovers of dirt on the surface are to be removed first using the back of knife.
Do not use aggressive detergents to avoid discoloration.
Facts: as a handmade products some unusual things like abrush, crucade is oblivious, this is the beauty of handmade rug.
Colors: all the dying process is done manually, all the unnecessary colors are wash off during manual washing, however in some rugs transferring of colors may occur, we strongly recommend rug pad to be use and to keep rugs out of moistures
Considering the above recommendations for care a complete cleaning will only be necessary after several years it at all.
